OCIA - THINKING ABOUT BECOMING CATHOLIC

Picture

O.C.I.A. (ORDER of CHRISTIAN INITIATION of ADULTS)
Each year adults are initiated or brought into full communion with the Catholic Church. O.C.I.A. fosters a learning and loving environment that supports this process. If you or someone you know has questions about the Catholic faith, are interested
in becoming a Catholic, or are an adult Catholic who would like to complete the Sacraments of Initiation (Eucharist & Confirmation,) please contact [email protected]

Still discerning if the OCIA process is a good fit for you?
  • Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic Church?
  • Are you not a member of any religious tradition (unbaptized) but recognize
a need for spirituality in your life?
  • Are you a baptized Catholic, but never completed your initiation, that is, celebrated Confirmation or Eucharist?
  • Are you a baptized Christian in another denomination but desire to
    become a Catholic Christian?

  • Are you a fully initiated Catholic who never received any formal religious   education and would like to learn more about the Catholic faith?
  • Are you friends with, married, or dating a Catholic and attend Mass, but   just don't know what the next step is to become one of the Catholic   faithful?
If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, the OCIA process may be for you! Send us an email or give us a call – we’d love to hear from you and how we can help your spiritual journey.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults
Frequently asked questions

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the place for you. Every year adults
are welcomed into the Catholic Community through OCIA. It is a learning and loving process in which conversion of the heart brings you to Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Savior.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process of discerning and ritualizing stages of gradual conversion. Initiation of adults belongs to all the baptized. The process is about a relationship over time with both God and the Catholic community. It is the Church's method of a faith journey of conversion.

The process has no time frame. Conversion occurs  on God's time; not our time. The OCIA conversion process consists of four periods. The amount of time spent in each phase is dependent on individual needs and feelings.
1. The Period of Evangelization or  Precatechumenate
2. The Period of The Catechumenate A  Brief History
3. The Period of Purification and Enlightenment
4. Mystagogy

At the end of each period, a rite is  celebrated to signify the continuation of the process until the sacraments of  initiation are celebrated. The rites are:

1.  The Rite of  Acceptance (into the Order  of the Catechumens)
2. The Rite of  Election
3. Celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation

Rite of Election 2022
Saturday, March 5th, our RCIA catechumens and candidate traveled to the Cathedral Basilica in Philadelphia to celebrate the Rite of Election & Call to Continuing Conversion with Archbishop Pérez and other RCIA participants throughout the Archdiocese. Supported by godparents and sponsors, the Archbishop elected and affirmed them in this final step toward the Sacraments of Initiation at Easter! Congratulations!
